Kolkata Rape Murder Case Supreme Court said remove rape victim picture and posts from social media

Kolkata Rape Murder Case: The Supreme Court is in action mode on the incident of brutality against a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In this regard, on Tuesday (August 20), the Supreme Court has termed the disclosure of the identity of the victim of the Kolkata massacre and the presence of her photographs on social media as wrong.

The Supreme Court has ordered to remove the victim’s photo from all social media platforms with immediate effect. It should be noted that legally, the identity of a rape victim can be revealed only with her consent. That is why the 2012 Delhi gang rape victim was also called ‘Nirbhaya’ instead of her real name.

The petition was filed

According to media reports, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding the removal of the photo of the Kolkata rape victim from social media. The Supreme Court expressed strong displeasure while hearing the petition filed against some media organizations and social media platforms for revealing the identity.

What did the Supreme Court say?

While hearing the petition, the Supreme Court said that the way media organizations are revealing the name and identity of the victim of brutality at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is completely wrong. Along with this, it said that this is also against the provision given in the Supreme Court’s decision because the identity of the rape victim cannot be revealed.

Who issued the summons?

Kolkata Police had earlier issued summons to former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two renowned doctors for revealing the identity of the victim female doctor and spreading rumours. According to the report, summons were also issued to 57 other people for spreading misinformation.
